The months in between

Pregnancy gets an announcement. Loss, sometimes, gets acknowledged. The months or years of trying in between get almost nothing.

There's no language for it and no place to put it, so a hugely common experience is lived almost entirely in private. Nothing to announce, nothing others would recognise as grief, and no obvious point at which anyone thinks to ask.
